Texas politicians have been telling us all along that they are passing onerous abortion restrictions out of concern for women’s health. But today RNC Chair Reince Priebus said it was all about taxpayer funding of abortion, which doesn’t exist in Texas. Hey, Reince? I’m confused.
Washington Monthly reports this morning that the RNC, which has provided coverage for abortion care for its employees for over 18 years and was suddenly “caught out” this week, is now proceeding to remove that coverage from its policy. But even so the RNC will still indirectly subsidize abortions, every time it writes a check to Cigna, thereby rejecting the reasoning of the Stupak amendment at a fundamental level.
Since “Save America’s Insurance Companies” is hardly a winning rallying cry, conservative groups are calling on their reliable foe/political friend, abortion.
