Anti-choice activist Terri Herring will not be added to the state board of health, but not because she’s completely unqualified.
Unintended pregnancies, especially teen pregnancies, are a large contributor to the many other challenges that plague the families in Mississippi, such as high rates of maternal and child mortality, a broader health crisis, and skyrocketing poverty levels.
If Mississippi’s only clinic does manage to stay open it may not matter, since abortion might be banned all together anyway.
When Gov. Phil Bryant claimed to believe that liberals just love abortion for its own sake, he was clearly lying. But that doesn’t mean we can’t understand what he’s really stabbing at, which is a deep-set fear of female independence.
Is this really what the state of Mississippi signed on for when they elected Bryant?
