After years of wandering in the desert, trying to figure out why Republicans are and have been so hell-bent on controlling our bodies, it suddenly dawned on me. John Boehner and the House GOP want to be your pimp.
Congressmen Henry Waxman and Frank Pallone ask Joe Pitts to withdraw H.R. 358 unless he can cite “constitutional authority,” a requirement imposed by the GOP majority in early January, and supposedly applicable to every piece of legislation in the 112th Congress except, apparently, those that strip women of their rights.
In the days leading to the November mid-term elections, the highly charged issues were government intervention in health care (ObamaCare), the soaring fiscal debt and the lack of jobs. Republicans promised that their first priorities were jobs, jobs and jobs. Next they would tackle health care by introducing a better plan for Americans. In the time that they have been in office, the only decisive action is —- against women.
HIV exposed babies who don’t contract the disease face greater danger from other diseases; Texas reels back a heinous abortion bill to be something minorly less heinous; Ohio Right to Life says no thanks to the “heartbeat” bill; and more Democratic Senators speak out against the wave of anti-woman, anti-health care mania that’s swept the GOP.
One hundred members of Congress (so far–list included below) have cosponsored a bill introduced by far right Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) that would allow hospitals to refuse to provide abortion care when necessary to save a woman’s life.
