Unfair Sacrifice: Female Peace Corps Volunteers Shouldn’t Have to Give Up Their Right to Health Care
Women serving our country should never have to face the tragedy of a sexual assault, but if they do, they should be able to access comprehensive health care and support services.
Christine Quinn’s silence was notable because she is widely perceived to be the only obstacle standing between the bill and its passage.
New York’s city council has a bill that would require paid sick days for more than 1.2 million workers. Research shows it’s an economic no-brainer. But the bill’s been stalled for more than 1,000 days, even as a natural disaster and flu epidemic hit the city.
However a person feels about abortion, it’s not their place to make that personal decision for someone else. And it’s certainly not the place of our elected officials.
We put President Obama into office. Now my generation must hold Obama accountable to his commitments, including urging him to submit a budget to Congress without unfair restrictions on coverage for abortion care. Obama Administration, take note that women will be watching to see if you live up to your commitments to women’s health care.
As we celebrate International Human Rights Day, there are still those around the world who think that reproductive rights are not human rights. For me, it is a simple concept: every person should be able to make decisions about her or his body.
If we are truly committed to communities of color, it is imperative that reproductive health and justice communities work to expand access to health care for low-income people.
Now that we’ve had a month to celebrate the triumph of No Copay Day, it is important to look forward and carefully consider what comes next on the advocacy agenda for effective implementation of the ACA’s reproductive health measures.
Overall, California Latinas/os stand to gain the most with the ACA, whether currently insured or uninsured.
Much has been made already of Sen. McConnell’s seeming disregard for the issue of those 30 million uninsured Americans. But what about this contention that the Affordable Care Act is a “Western European system?” McConnell needs a fact check.
