The Pro-Choice Movement Needs More Abortion Stories

Last week, my Students for Choice Chapter at the University of Michigan – partnered with the 1 in 3 Campaign – attempted to harness the latent power of abortion stories by hosting our first-ever Abortion Speak Out.

Hearing an uncensored abortion story articulated by an individual who has terminated a pregnancy provides an emotional boon that is impossible to achieve with statistics. The pro-choice movement needs that emotion.

Talking about Abortion and Morality with College Students in North Carolina

I brought up the three points (which were not in the sections of the video we attached) that should serve as a foundational basis of what we stand for: a fetus is not a baby, abortion is not murder, women are not incubators, and talked about how those points are probably completely non-controversial amongst the people in the room, but which had been compromised and diluted to near meaninglessness by the sections of the movement that are subservient to the Democratic Party.

Women, Listen to Your Mothers

Because of the tremendous work done in the 60s and 70s, my generation can sit around and have conversations about our feelings about abortion. But we need to remember that what matters politically is the legal right to have an abortion, without which these conversations are moot.
