Sophia Black is a 24-year old staff intern at AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth and Families in Washington DC. She received her Bachelors of Science in Environmental Health from Old Dominion University in 2010. Over the last year she has spent time traveling to multiple locations in the United States conducting training sessions to empower people living with HIV. This summer she will be presenting at the International AIDS Conference on topics related to youth living with HIV and disclosure. She is also preparing for graduate school to pursue a Master’s in Public Health.
STIs affect people of all races, ages, and sexual orientations, though some individuals experience greater challenges in protecting their health. When individual risk behaviors are combined with barriers to quality health information and STI prevention services, the risk of infection increases. Increasing access to testing is key.
