Sarah Omega

Ms. Sarah Omega Kidangasi, 34, is a fistula survivor and advocate from Kenya. Orphan at the age of 11, she dropped out of school due to financial instability. After a difficult pregnancy and labour in her late teens, she developed a fistula, condition she lived with for 12 years. After her successful repair in 2007, she became passionate about maternal health and obstetric fistula: “Let the trauma end with me, so that no other woman has to suffer as I suffered.” Since then, she has been actively involved in key international events and advocacy efforts within the Global Campaign to End Fistula, including two political briefings at Capitol Hill. In July 2009 she joined singer and actress and Campaign celebrity spokesperson, Ms. Natalie Imbruglia, to call for action on maternal health and obstetric fistula at the High Level Segment of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting of the United Nations. In 2010, she gave her testimony during the Women Deliver Conference in Washington, D.C., spreading the word about this terrible childbirth condition.
