Mia Davis is the National Grassroots Coordinator of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a national coalition of health and environmental groups working to protect consumer health by calling for the elimination of chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other health problems from all personal care products. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is an unique combination of a markets-based campaign and a coalition working to improve chemical policy at both state and national levels.
Mia is moved to action by the rapidly increasing number of serious health problems people are experiencing, as well as the unnecessary chemical burden humans impose on wildlife, the earth, air and water. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a great way to shed light on just how pervasive this chemical burden is. Most people she speaks with are shocked to learn that the FDA has no control over what chemicals are in the products we slather all over our skin, or bathe our children in. It is fully legal to load make-up and bubble bath with carcinogens and reproductive toxins.
Mia achieved her MA in International Development, Community and Environment from Clark University in 2003. When she is not crusading for cleaner, safer consumer products and over-all environmental health she is usually reading, enlisting good humor as a survival mechanism, or enjoying the company of animals.
