Meghan Doherty

Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD)

Meghan Doherty is the Advocacy and Communications officer with Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD) based in Ottawa, Canada. In this role, Meghan works with governments, UN bodies and civil society to integrate sexual and reproductive rights into the work of the UN Human Rights Council.

Before joining ACPD in 2011, Meghan worked as the Policy and Advocacy Officer with the Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) from 2007-2011 where she was responsible for implementing high level strategies to improve sexual and reproductive health policies in Ireland and internationally, with a particular focus on challenging the criminalization of abortion in Ireland through the European Court of Human Rights, the United Nations treaty-monitoring bodies and the Universal Periodic Review process.

Meghan has over eight years experience advocating for the rights of women, young people and marginalized groups to sexual and reproductive health information, education and services as well as on a broad range of other reproductive and sexual rights and health issues.

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, Meghan holds an undergraduate degree in History from Queen’s University, Canada and a Masters Degree in Women’s Studies from University College Cork, Ireland.
