Marisa “Mimi” Spalding is serving as a Law Students for Reproductive Justice (LSRJ) Fellow at the Black Women’s Health Imperative, which is the only national non-profit organization committed to advocating for and contributing to the improvement in the health and well-being of the nation’s Black women, girls, and their families. Marisa received her B.S. in Family Studies and Human Development with a minor in African American Studies from the University of Arizona. She also completed her MPH in Maternal and Child Health and her JD at the University of Arizona. Marisa’s work has centered on maternal health and health equity.
It is no secret that women of color—specifically Black and Latina women—are at greatest risk of cervical cancer. Ending cervical cancer will be no easy task. Great strides can be made by taking a multi-level approach to the problem, which includes expanding knowledge, empowering Black women to make their health a priority, and continued advocacy efforts.
