Dr. Carolyn Westhoff

Dr. Westhoff serves as senior medical advisor for Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Medical Center and is a Professor of Epidemiology and Population & Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.

Dr. Westhoff is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at S.U.N.Y. Downstate Medical Center and received a M.Sc. in Epidemiology from the London School Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr. Westhoff was a founding member of Physicians for Reproductive Choice and Health and a founding fellow of the Society for Family Planning. In addition to practicing as an attending physician at New-York Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Westhoff has served as principal investigator on numerous research studies on the safety and effectiveness of contraception and abortion and has published over 160 peer-reviewed articles on the subject. In 2007, Dr. Westhoff was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science.
