Abortion providers were pioneers in offering counseling, excellent outpatient medical care, and informed consent. Now the secrecy and stigma perpetuated by the anti-choice movement allow substandard care to thrive.
On this 37th anniversary of Roe, I call on us to transform this
conversation. I call on us to stand tall so that the provision of abortion services in the United States is a model of care for the rest of the world. I call on us to ask our patients not just to care about themselves–but, as we do, to care about the women who come after them.
When abortion provider Renee Chelian created a video called “Every Day, Good Women Choose Abortion” all she was thinking about was what would be good for her patients. In return, she is being violently attacked by anti-choice forces.
The Stupak-Pitts amendment would actually result the loss of abortion coverage many women already have because it prohibits the new private insurance market as well as any possible public option from providing such coverage.
When members of the Abortion Care Network learned that NBC’s Law and Order would do a “ripped from the headlines” episode on the assassination of Dr. George Tiller, many of us were upset. Now that we have seen it, we are furious.
