Angela García Reyes is a Mexican attorney and litigator. She has a law degree from the University of Guadalajara and is enrolled in the Gender, Society, and Policy Master’s Program through FLACSO, Buenos Aires. Since 2002 she has worked with the Jalisco chapter of CLADEM (Comité de América Latina y el Caribe para la Defensa de los Derechos de la Mujer), and since 2008 she has been a member of Radar 4º, a national network of pro-choice lawyers who defend women charged with abortion.
In 2008 the Mexican Supreme Court upheld the law permitting voluntary abortion up to twelve weeks in Mexico City. A backlash began immediately and 17 Mexican states have now reformed their state constitutions to define life as beginning at conception.
