Alia Al-Khatib
Alia Al-Khatib is a Vassar Maguire Fellow in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she has been investigating gender violence and women’s rights policy in relation to international human rights law. Alia is currently interning at Equipo Latinoamericano de Justicia y Género (ELA). Previously, she worked as a paralegal at the New York Civil Liberties Union and Senior Case Manager at Safe Horizon in New York.

In March, Argentina’s Supreme Court issued a decision clarifying a woman’s right to obtain an abortion in all cases of rape. While this is an enormous achievement, ensuring that rape survivors are able to access abortion in practice represents an even greater challenge.
