Yep. And these are the people who use black women as props and cry crocodile tears over the ‘black genocide’ of abortion/contraception, then turn around and put these women into jail!!

We have more prisoners than any country since USSR in Stalin’s times.

  • Nicko Thime

It is MEANT to do that.
This is just a new face on bigotry.

Even more disturbing about this law is the fact that it only targets women who’ve used “illegal” drugs during pregnancy. Many, perhaps even the majority, of the babies who suffer fetal abstinence
syndrome in Tennessee, were exposed to legal opioid drugs taken by their
mothers during pregnancy. There’s a epidemic of opioid addiction,
especially in mostly-white East Tennessee. But this law will not impact
that–because prescription opioid drugs are not “illegal.” Instead, this law will impact mostly black and brown women who’ve taken–or are just suspected of taking–illegal drugs like heroin and crack cocaine.
The lawmakers who wrote this law wrote it in such a way that it’s main
impact will be on minority women, who overwhelmingly live in Memphis and
West Tennessee. Not only is this an attack on minority women, it’s an
attack on Tennessee’s largest city–a majority Black city–that is
reviled and despised by the majority white and rural parts of the state.

The prison industrial complex needs to fill their beds. They’ve decimated the African American population, poor, unemployed whites and now they’re coming for pregnant women. What group will be next?

More than 60% of the people in prison are now racial and ethnic minorities. For Black males in their thirties, 1 in every 10 is in prison or jail on any given day. These trends have been intensified by the disproportionate impact of the “war on drugs,” in which two-thirds of all persons in prison for drug offenses are people of color. This law will “help” intensify the disproportionate impact.

Look up Alicia Bertran’s experience with having her constitutional rights ripped away from her because she was pregnant.

this is a eugenics bill. he wants them broads to abort the baby before it come to term.

Excellent piece Imani. It makes me angry they’d rather imprison these women than get them the help they need. Addicts need HELP, not prison!!!!
