Pennsylvania Nurse Accused of Giving Teen Medication Abortion Pills

A Pennsylvania nurse has been accused of “performing an illegal abortion on a 16-year-old girl,” according to a local report out of Montour county.

WNEP reports:

State police say Jennifer Whalen, 38, of Washingtonville bought the pills from an overseas online pharmacy in January of 2012, and gave them to the teenager. She was charged earlier this week with performing an illegal abortion. According to court papers, the teenager did not have health insurance and did not want to go to the hospital to have the procedure.

Located in rural central Pennsylvania, Montour is the smallest county in the state. It has no freestanding abortion clinics.

“I think it speaks to the need for folks to have affordable access to safe and confidential care,” Sarah Newman, director of public affairs at Planned Parenthood Keystone, told RH Reality Check.

According to the report, “about two weeks after the teen took the abortion pills she had severe stomach pains and was taken to Geisinger Medical Center,” where doctors said she had a miscarriage.

Whalen’s relationship to the teen is unclear.

I am not going to be surprised if there are many more of these sorts of abortions! Abortion is effectively illegal in many parts of America where girls still live.

If you know the history of abortion in America, you know that we were not waiting for the government to make it legal. I was part of the NOW parlor abortion movement. The government was late. We were taking care of ourselves. Looks like we have to go there again. A great many more of us are nurses, midwives, EMTs and doctors now.

      from wikipedia:
The Jane Collective or Jane, officially known as the Abortion Counseling Service of Women’s Liberation, was an undergroundabortion service which operated in Chicago, Illinois from 1969 to 1973. The collective was started by a group of women in an effort to address the increasing number of unsafe abortions being performed by untrained persons that often had no medical experience at all. Since illegal abortions were not only dangerous but very expensive, the founding members of the collective believed that they could provide women with safer and more affordable access to abortions. During the years which Jane operated, the collective performed more than 11,000 abortions in Chicago.[1] The collective disbanded after Roe v. Wade made abortion legal throughout the United States in 1973.

We may need to go back to this if the abortion extremist have their way

        • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Yes. I am old now but I am ready to do it again.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

Hope we don’t have to, wouldn’t be surprised though. I’m 20 so I don’t remember that time, but I have read about it!

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

My daughters are in their 20s. I have one daughter who is 50. I remember no legal abortion or reliable contraception. It was a horror show for women. I hope we do not have to as well. Women need to vote and become bigtime political.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

Oh I am, as much as I can be at least! I would never vote for a pro-liar candidate not matter what!

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Love you new feminists. Long may you reign.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

Thanks! I remember reading a lot about abortion when I was younger, I am convinced that the only thing that will come out of making abortion illegal is unsafe abortions! If I had to, I would do it of course, but I do not want to go there.

Oh, and the pro-liars who say unsafe abortions won’t go up b/b there are not stats, how are you supposed to get stats on illegal activity that is shamed by society?

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Agree. Abortion is legal so we can study it. Their arguments are absurd and unscientific. Basically all they have is lies and shaming/blaming.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

Yes! Also, they say they wanna adopt, then why are there so many children in foster care. I once read one say that they don’t want a child with mental illness (MI), they want infants. Umm…children with MI deserve forever homes too. They were also babies once, and if pro-liars wanna insist that they want to adopt and be selfless, then they should step up to the plate!

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Agree. I would never adopt out a born child and hope for the best. Strikes me as real abandonment. They forced girls to adopt out before Roe and contraception by the way they structured society. I prefer to abort when it is only a clot then give up a born child I risked my life and health to have.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

Same here, you just don’t know what happens to the child! Even if you do meet the birth family you will never know what goes on behind closed doors when you are gone!

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Exactly. I would be pining for that child the rest of my life. Adoptees often feel that way too.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

I know, one that I knew only talks about his birth mother with anger, and his adoptive parents are not good parents at all, they adopted him to fix their marriage!

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

            So sad.

          • http://littlemisshaldol.tumblr.com/ LittleMissMellaril

It is, people are so selfish.

        • L-dan

May? With the vast reduction in access that’s already a reality (look at the Dakotas, or Mississippi), why aren’t we already seeing this comeback?

I suspect because the knowledge resides with a more privileged set of people, who don’t yet have to confront that reduced access. NOW or NARAL could get behind organizing something like this, as NOW did back in the day. I wonder what that would take?

    • lady_black

Menstrual extraction will make a big comeback, and become popular again, like it was in the early 70s.

      • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Yes. I was part of the parlor movement NOW started to teach menstrual extraction to groups of women in 1970. We did not need to do that anymore in 1973. I was 30.

        • lady_black

Well, my dear Plum Darling, please keep in touch with me if in case it ever becomes necessary again. I’m a nurse who will learn the technique and use it to help other women. I remember menstrual extraction as a vague memory, because in 1973 I was 14 years old, and it has since been unnecessary to know. Sad to think it may again become something women do in confidence. But if it does, so be it.

          • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

okay. works for me. thank you. I can always be found at plumstchili@gmail.com. I am going to follow you so I can find you. So be it.

    • JamieHaman

    • oconee_hammond

      • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Well the next time you get in an auto accident, we will just leave you there to bleed to death. You made the decision to drive. Swine.

      • Ineedacoffee

Pretty sure it takes 2 to get pregnant and lik yeah toes she willed that sperm to the egg with all her might or was it this famous immaculate conception?

      • lady_black

Yes she did. And having made that decision, she now gets to decide what to do about it. Frankly, it’s none of your concern.

      • CJ99

Yet no mention of the guy who got her pregnant. But then I guess you won’t be complaining when a man rapes you.

      • Jennifer Starr

        Do you have a point?

    • Ineedacoffee

No we cant have laws preventing safe acess to all women for abortion OF ANY AGE

  • JamieHaman

Safe, legal, and absolutely available to all women.

  • oconee_hammond

Why didn’t someone tell the girl about using a coat hanger?

    • http://plumstchili.blogspot.com/ Plum Dumpling

Why don’t you sit on a fireplug and spin?

    • Ineedacoffee

Sadly someone didnt teach your parents how to use a coathanger
