They Are Coming for Your Birth Control: Doctors Who Prescribe the Pill Limit Women’s “True Purpose”

You know what women really need? Fewer doctors prescribing contraception.

Note: Think that anti-choice politicians and activists aren’t trying to outlaw contraception?  Think again.  Follow along in an ongoing series that proves beyond a doubt that they really are coming for your birth control.

There is nothing more frustrating than a medical professional who writes you a prescription for birth control, am I right?

No, really, that is apparently a legitimate complaint if you are a “pro-life feminist:” doctors who are unwilling not to simply make your contraceptive decisions for you. A writer at LiveAction (go figure) laments not being able to find enough gynecologists in her community NOT willing to prescribe the pill. According to her, that would be one key way to stop abortion.

Um, yeah.

My gynecologist back in Dallas was 100% pro-life and Catholic. He did not prescribe artificial birth control. And he was the only one I could find in the entire city.

Too many doctors are willing to ignore the Latin maxim they are taught in early medical school: Primum non nocere. First, do no harm. Unlike the women they “treat,” they are not ignorant of the reality of what they’re doing. They know full well that it is no “clump of cells.” They have convinced themselves – like so many pro-abortion people – that the ends justify the means, even when the “ends” turn out to be grieving, regretful, or even dead and maimed women.

Groups like the Association of Pro-Life Physicians and the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNS help women find pro-life physicians. The more doctors refuse to perform abortions and respect their patients enough to tell them the truth, the fewer abortions there will be.

Now, we could go ahead and give her the benefit of the doubt that she means that all doctors should refuse to perform abortions like her own did, not that she thinks it would be best for all OB-GYNs not to offer the pill. But considering she earlier described her form of “feminism” as “embracing true femininity in motherhood and the natural processes of our lady plumbing is true empowerment, not aborting our children so we can finish our super-important degree in comparative literature.” and bemoaned the “wantonness” of today’s feminists, I have my doubts.

So here is something that seems like it should have made it into her “things we need more of if we want to stop abortion” list: contraception. Fewer unintended pregnancies means fewer abortions. It’s simple. Yet that doesn’t get any sort of mention, because as we all know, they are coming for your birth control.
