Under the direction of Governor Jan Brewer, Arizona has become the state most hostile to women’s health and reproductive rights, as illustrated in part by the ongoing lawsuit against the 18-week post-conception abortion ban, the earliest so-called “fetal pain” ban in the country.

So how does an anti-choice activist group celebrate that achievement? They bring religious right crusader and former presidential candidate Rick Santorum to host their gala.

Via Phoenix New Times:

“Our great state is gaining exciting momentum in its effort to protect the unborn,” the event flyer says. “With the strongest pro-life legislature in Arizona history, with a Governor and County Attorney who have worked tirelessly to advance the pro-life cause, and with our pain-based abortion ban now under appeal before the 9th Circuit, we are positioned like never before to pioneer the pro-life trail.

It looks like most of the big-name Arizona Republicans are going to be there, including all five of the state’s GOP members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Some state- and county-level players will be there too, including the aforementioned Maricopa County Attorney, Bill Montgomery.

The event, which is sold out is an “evening dedicated to the respect, love and protection of all human life.” The respect for the woman or girl facing an unwanted or complicated pregnancy seems to have, unfortunately been lost somewhere in the mix.
