Maryland Congressman Claims More Women Undergo Sex Selection Abortion Than Get Pregnant By Rape

Maryland Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is just the latest to weigh in on whether or not women can be impregnated through rape or have the right to choose to terminate a pregnancy conceived through violent assault. But unlike some of his more strident anti-choice colleagues, he’s willing to let them make their own choice, since it’s such as small number of women, as opposed to what he claims is the large number of women choosing sex selection abortion.

Via Think Progress:

“Oh, life of the mother – exception of life of the mother, rape and incest. Yeah, I’ve always — that’s a mantra, you know, I’ve said it so often it just spills out,” he said. “If you really – there are very few pregnancies as a result of rape, fortunately, and incest — compared to the usual abortion, what is the percentage of abortions for rape? It is tiny. It is a tiny, tiny percentage.” …. [I]n terms of the percentage of pregnancies, percentage of abortions for rape as compared to overall abortions, it’s a tiny, tiny percentage,” Bartlett said. […]

“Most abortions, most abortions are for what purpose? The just don’t want to have a baby! The second reason for abortion is you’d like a boy and it’s a girl, or vice versa. And I know a lot of people are opposed to abortion who are pro-choice,” Bartlett said.

Alleged gender-based abortions have become an odd fixation for anti-choice politicians within the last year, especially since the LiveAction “sting” meant to offer Congress a guise to add more scrutiny on abortion providers and open up a line of questioning as to why a woman is seeking a termination. But as studies have shown, there is no indication that sex selection is widespread in the United States and civil rights groups see potential “solutions” as being nothing more than thinly veiled attempts to limit abortion access for communities of other ethnicities.

Keep right on saying stuff like this, pro-lifers–keep showing the world how nasty and uninformed you really are.

This putrid PIG has no idea who is getting abortions because they were raped. I could not say I was sexually abused until nine years after it stopped. My mother asked me when I was sixteen, and I lied. I said no, I had never been raped. The hardest thing in the world to say is “I was raped”. Pro-lifers and republicans do not give a tiny damn about raped women or raped little girls. Everything they say would bring a smile to my rapist face.

I do believe it is republican men who keep the sex slave industry in business.

The two biggest pro-forced-birth organizations in America are saturated in child rape.

    1)      The catholic church.

    2)      The southern Baptist convention. The bible loving, bible verse quoting man who sexually terrorized me for the first ten years of my life was a proud southern Baptist thug.

“TIME ranks Southern Baptists’ rejection of sex-offender database as a top “underreported” news story of 2008″

Their life manual, the bible, uses pregnancy and childbirth to punish and hurt women and little girls, just like they do.

Pro-forced-birthers favorite piece of literature of all time.

    Quote from the bible.

    Genesis 3:16

“I will greatly multiply your grief and your suffering in pregnancy and the pangs of childbearing; with spasms of distress you will bring forth children. Yet your desire and cravings will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

Republicans and pro-forced-birthers my rapist gives you two thumbs up.

300,000 women are raped in the U.S. every year. 25,000 of those rapes result in pregnancies. A fact denied by most national Republicans. To the men who think this:
Aliens land and round you up. They forcibly hold you down and insert baby aliens inside your body. You will spend the next 9 months as an incubator. You will not be allowed to do any activities that will endanger the alien growing inside of you. You will not be allowed to smoke or use tobacco. You will not be allowed to drink any alcohol. You will spend the first 3 months puking. Your body will expand to accommodate the little aliens. Those of you who are football players/construction workers, or anyone that must do strenuous activities for your job, (including any jobs that would expose you to toxic substances) you will have to switch to another job so that you won’t damage the growing alien inside of you. No weight lifting, contact sports of any kind. Can you imagine how many guys would have to give up every hobby they have? Are you men feeling violated yet? Feeling frustrated that you can’t smoke, drink, shoot hoops, go to work, etc? Now you have an inkling of what women have to deal with when they are raped and forced to give up 9 months of their lives. No woman, (or man for that matter) should be forced to become an incubator. We have the right to decide what we want to do with our own bodies. We need to speak up now, before we lose our rights!!!

“Church excommunicates mother of 9-year-old rape victim – but not accused rapist.”

A senior Vatican cleric has defended the Catholic Church’s decision to excommunicate the mother and doctors of a nine-year-old rape victim who had a life-saving abortion in Brazil.”

“Police believe the girl was sexually assaulted for years by her stepfather, possibly since she was six. That she was four months pregnant with twins emerged only after she was taken to hospital complaining of severe stomach pains.”
