“Jane” Had An Abortion, and She Is Speaking Out

“Jane” had an abortion, and she took pictures. The result was “Thisismyabortion.com,” a reminder that what most women see when they have an abortion isn’t what is shown on the blown up posters and placards displayed by anti-choice protesters.

But although the site corrects the public misconception of what products of conception look like, it also clarifies the fact that regardless of all of the physical roadblocks put in place to stop a woman from terminating a pregnancy, it’s the financial hurdles that are often greater.

Via Business Insider:

JANE: There is a vast wealth divide that decides who can and who cannot access an abortion. I’m well aware of the privilege I had in being able to pay for my abortion outright. Many women, in fact, I would argue most, cannot afford the procedure simply out of pocket. If I did not have the financial means to pay for my abortion, I would have gone to serious lengths to have made it possible.

Women are faced with that reality everyday. It’s madness to witness the inequality of wealth distribution in our social programs. A much larger portion of my tax dollars feeds our defense program than our health programs. If I had any say in how my tax dollars were allocated, I would direct all my hard earned tax dollars to education programs and women’s health organizations.

As “Jane” explained to Jessica Gottlieb, she would have resorted to nearly any means possible to obtain an abortion, only resorting to having the baby and giving in up for adoption if every other option was cut off.

Jane: It was fortunately not difficult for me to obtain the actual abortion itself. The clinic where I had my procedure has since been shut down. The only way a woman could have an abortion now would be to travel to the nearest city, over an hour away.

JG: What would you have done if you weren’t allowed an abortion?

Jane: This is a really tough question. Honestly, I would have done everything in my power to obtain a safe abortion. I would have contacted organizations such as Women on Waves or Women on Web and sought them out to have the procedure done in the safest manner possible to my body. If this pursuit turned up with no results, I would have given my child up for adoption.

Although “Jane’s” site is meant to provide a realistic view of what an abortion at six weeks looks like, abortion opponents are unsurprisingly unmoved, calling her “evil,” “soulless” and sending her emails telling her what her “developed baby” looked like and that they are praying for her.

Ahhh, yes that sounds a lot like the anti-choicers who used to send me instant messages with made-up screen names impersonating my aborted embryo or call me on the phone and crying like an infant…all to tell me what an evil murdering whore I was and that my punishment was coming soon. Ironically, one of these anti-choice bitches actually WAS a murderer…she had once hit and killed a teen boy while driving too fast (and perhaps drunk) on the interstate late at night. I am sure her constant “You’re a murderer” tirades were merely a way for her to project her own guilt about having taken a human life onto me. The truth is the strangest thing!!

Did any prolifers actually call you names like “evil murdering whore”?

    but you call women bitches?

Accusing someone of “perhaps” being drunk after a horrible accident without knowing details?

You’re right, the truth is the strangest thing!  Truth is, your child died during your abortion.

  • princess-jourdan

Anyone who continually harasses me, calls me filthy names, and harasses MY FAMILY is indeed a bitch. In fact, bitch is the kindest name I can think of to describe such a person.

And a microscopic 5 week old zygote the size of a pencil point is NOT a “child”. In fact, the doctor who performed my abortion looked at the ultrasound screen and exclaimed “Wow, she isn’t very far along at all!” So spare me the “your child was murdered” bullshit.

Oh, and considering the fact that this anti-choice bully who hit and killed the teenage boy on the highway was later arrested for drunk driving not long after gives me a pretty good iindication that she was drunk when she had that fatal accident…or at the very least driving recklessly.

    Nice try though.

‘pro-lifers’ call women who disagree with their idiot notions far worse than those names. Further, you folks assault us, threaten, intimidate and stalk us,  murder us, blow up our businesses, burn down our property, lie constantly and outrageously and, in general, are home grown terrorists.

Further, now with the enthusiastic support of the ‘pro-life’ movement, the GOP has announced their intention to deny both adequate nutrition and healthcare to the poor while simultaneously trying to force all women to live a pathetic life of forced gestation and birth to children we cannot afford to feed or care for properly. ‘Bitch’ is so mild to describe a woman who would force that on other women.

  • jennifer-starr

Having both heard and observed the way this woman stalked and harassed Jourdan, bitch is really the kindest thing I could think of to call her as well. In fact, I’d stick the word ‘psycho’ in front of bitch and it’d still be an understatement. This woman was clearly deranged.

You’re right, the truth is the strangest thing!  Truth is, your child died during your abortion.

Why do ‘pro-lifers’ have this obsession/fixation on other people’s private lives?  Not enough to do in your own life?

  • jennifer-starr

I recall one recent incident of ‘pro-life’ stalkers demonstrating outside some family’s home. The woman of the house came out to mow her lawn and they seemed ‘shocked and surprised’ that she was hostile to them-I think one comment read something  like ‘Why are pro-aborts so angry’? –Hello, you’re harassing a person outside their home! I imagine if someone was doing that to you, you’d be pretty damn angry as well.

Stalking laws were made for people like this.

  • princess-jourdan

Jennifer, were you one of the people who was actually able to witness the harassment I endured? Because I noticed you used the word “observed” in your post. I’ve added a lot of friends on Facebook who are fellow commentators on sites I frequent, so I wasn’t sure if you were one of the people I had added. If you are, then yes you have probably witnessed some of this “psycho bitch’s” (as you correctly termed it) deranged antics. Because whenever she and her minions would start to act up, I would draw others’ attention to it so they could see it with their own eyes.

Truth is your child died during your abortion.

  • princess-jourdan

Once again, a microscopic ball of cells is NOT a child. Just because you repeat your statement over and over again does not make it true…just like that bully repeatedly saying over and over that the zygote I aborted was “imaginary” doesn’t make it true, either. You people are really all the same.

  • bj-survivor

Nope, the barely visible bundle of tissue that I had expelled during my surgical abortion was never a “child.” It was merely a potential child. I am under no obligation to give my tissues and organs to anyone, not even blood or bone marrow, the extraction of which is far less risky to my health and well-being than pregnancy. So why, pray tell, should I be forced to risk my health, my well-being, and even my life for an insensate cluster of barely differentiated tissue?

Honestly, I have passed blood clots during menstruation that are far larger than the embryonic sac that I had expelled.
