Fire At Georgia Reproductive Health Clinic May Have Been Arson

Clinic workers report seeing "suspicious" activity before the flames broke out.

Doctors in Georgia had worried that the contentious debate over the 20 week ban in the capital was contributing to an uptick in local violence at reproductive health clinics, citing an increase in burglaries and thefts of equipment as a potential means of intimidation.

Now, it appears those doctors may be right, as a clinic fire in an Atlanta area office may be the result of arson.

Via the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

Though firefighters are still investigating, employees told Channel 2 Action News they saw suspicious activity before the fire. Clinic workers said two men went upstairs and left shortly afterward, minutes before the fire was discovered.

The third floor of the building was extensively damaged, and the lower floors were damaged by water, [firefighter Denell] Boyd said.

This is the second fire this week, with a prior blaze occurring early Sunday morning at another clinic that provides abortions.

Two clinic fires in four days?  That’s a lot of “accidents.”
