Anti-Choice Remind Us Once Again That Parental Consent Goes Only One Way

A young teen girl in Texas is the new cause of the day for anti-choice activists, as a legal team fights to help her continue her pregnancy against her parent’s wishes.

According to LifeNews, an either 13 or 14 year old girl (both ages are mentioned) who is recently pregnant has, with the help of an anti-choice law group, obtained a restraining order against her family, who is trying to force her into having an abortion.

“Roe v. Wade and ‘choice’ go both ways… if it protects the constitutional rights of a girl or woman to have an abortion, oftentimes without even parental notification or consent, it likewise protects the right of that same girl or woman to not have an abortion against her will” said [Texas Center for Defense of Life] President and CEO Greg Terra.

TCDL Vice President and Chief Counsel Stephen Casey added, “No one should be allowed to decide that an innocent life–especially one that belongs to someone else–is worthless.  The right to not have an abortion is protected by law, and this right is not relinquished just because someone else considers the child to be an unwanted burden.”

Except of course, in Texas, you actually do need parental notificating and consent if you are 17 years old or younger and want an abortion.  But if you are a 7 week pregnant 13 year old, you are apparently old and mature enough to decide you want to be a teen mom on your own.

I’m a firm believer in choice — even for 13 to 14 year old girls.  It’s the double standard that upsets me: that a parent should be the final decider if a teen wants an abortion, but that the teen is old enough to parent if she chooses to remain pregnant.

Just as grotesque is their double standard on male partners.  If the girl’s partner wanted her to have an abortion, they’d be calling him a child abuser.  Since he doesn’t, though, he’s just the “teenage father.”  I’m frankly surprised that they didn’t use this as an occasion to plug “fatherhood rights.”

“Except of course, in Texas, you actually do need parental notification and consent if you are 17 years old or younger and want an abortion.”  True, but in Texas it is very easy to get a judicial bypass to get an abortion without parental notification or consent, which is why I said “oftentimes without even parental notification or consent,” emphasis on “oftentimes.”

“But if you are a 7 week pregnant 13 year old, you are apparently old and mature enough to decide you want to be a teen mom on your own.”  If you are really “pro-choice” and not pro-abortion I suppose you would agree.  If our client’s choice was to have the abortion you would be applauding her as “old and mature enough to decide” to have the abortion without parental consent or notification.  The hypocrisy here is astounding!

In addition, we will certainly use current federal law (Roe and Casey which were wrongly decided) to support our legal position until such time as they are overturned so that all unborn children have legal protection.  Just imagine the age of the child as one month old and perhaps you will get this concept.

You really should just be honest and call yourself “pro-abortion” because you are definitely not “pro-choice” unless the choice is for death.

Screw you Greg.  Your ilk is forrced pregnancy for women.  You could care less if a woman dies.  We are nothing but brood mares to you.  Our rights mean nothing to you and your disgusting organization.  My body, my choice.  If I want to terminate a pregnancy, no law or person will stop me.  So fuck you and shove your anti-choice misogyny up your ass.

You are no more pro-life than all those women you want to die in back alley abortions which is why the law Roe vs. Wade was passed to save the dying women ! You really think that as a civilization that has advanced scientifically we are going backwards into time when there was no medicine?

The only science you believe in is the one that studies fetus’s and pregnancy. When it comes to environmental damage your kind could care less !

Your groups are the hieght of hypocrisy in all of what you do or say. Keep thinking your fooling the ‘poor’ uneducated women that need protection from themselves. I am offended by your stupidity!

If you really and truly CARED about all those unborns then why are you not out teaching young men to be responsible grown ups instead of running everytime they get a chance from any sort of commitment to a girlfriend they impregnated if said girlfriend wants them to be invovlved of course. Where is the education for men to act like adults and take care of their share of the burdens! You expect women to do everything don’t you without pay? Yes I am blaming men like you until you butt out of a womans right to her own body because damn if we women have to do it ALL and are more than capable OF MAKING OUR OWN DECISIONS WITHOUT THE GOVERNMENT , STATES ,groups like yours and all the churches telling us what we can and cannot do withour lives -when we do it ALL! No help from women hating men like you who put roadblocks every turn of the way against women trying to make it on their own most likely because some male predator screwed them up physically or mentally!!

Have you made a report that this girl is a victim of child sexual abuse or not?
