Barbour “Concerned” About Initiative 26

See all our coverage of Mississippi Initiative (Prop) 26 here.

Both candidates for governor of the state of Mississippi — one Democrat and one Republican, say they are very much in favor of the new amendment that would make fertilized eggs have the same rights as people.

One person not so sure?  The current governor himself, Republican Haley Barbour.

Via CBS News:

“I’m somebody that believes life begins at conception, that’s one of the reasons I’m pro-life,” Barbour said Wednesday on Fox News. “But a lot of pro-life people have problems with this particular language… There’s concern this is ambiguous, even in an enormously pro-life state like mine, there is some concern about this.”

Later on MSNBC, Barbour added, “I am concerned about some of the ramifications on in vitro fertilization, ectopic pregnancies where pregnancies [occur] outside the uterus and in the fallopian tubes. That concerns me, I have to just say it.”

Is it possible that the message that this is more than just an attempt to ban abortion, and that the amendment goes way too far, is finally making it to the general public?

Maybe you can explain why even though the eagle is no longer an endangered species, its eggs are still federally protected while they’re still in the mother eagle; once they are laid; through the 35-day incubation period and beyond through hatching. In fact, even the nonliving eagle egg shell is protected by the federal law. We’re talking a $100,000 fine! Shouldn’t a human baby have at least the same protection under the law?

It is simply bringing the constitution in line with what science already recognizes: “By all the criteria of modern molecular biology, life is present from the moment of conception.” Dr. Hymie Gordon, Chairman, Department of Genetics at the Mayo Clinic

“The only times we even question whether human beings are persons (or “truly” human) are during exploitation and injustice. During the Holocaust, in support of slavery, and to spread eugenics, for example, we have questioned whether the people exploited or abused are really, truly human. To me, that’s powerful.” Ana Banderas

AIN’T I A WOMAN? This is what Sojourner Truth asked when she gave her famous speech about the rights of black women.

Ryan Bomberger answers this question in this beautiful music video written by a man who was conceived by an act of rape:

How fortunate his mother recognized his “personhood”!

You posted the same thing last night and you’ve been spamming it all over the web. Funny how it’s not any more convincing or true than it was when you posted it last night.   Did you think this up yourself or copy and paste the talking points from various websites?

  • jennifer-starr

Not a good analogy, really.  The bird and the eggs are protected from PEOPLE.  If the mother eagle did something to destroy her own eggs before they hatched, do you think she’d be fined or prosecuted?

  • ahunt

    I (the woman) say No.

Let us cut to the chase…a thing you woo woo prolifers never want to do.

    The woman has said no.

What then…? Please make your “solution” workable in reality.

All pro-lifers are vile Pro-RAPE creeps. You love little girl rape.

”Church excommunicates mother of 9-year-old rape victim – but not accused rapist.”

A senior Vatican cleric has defended the Catholic Church’s decision to excommunicate the mother and doctors of a nine-year-old rape victim who had a life-saving abortion in Brazil.”

“Police believe the girl was sexually assaulted for years by her stepfather, possibly since she was six. That she was four months pregnant with twins emerged only after she was taken to hospital complaining of severe stomach pains.”

As someone who was sexually abused as a little girl I find all pro-forced birthers just as heartless as the men who sexually abused me and my cousins.

  • forced-birth-rape

~ Pro-lifers treat the female race (even under age sexually abused girls) like shit on the bottom of their woman and little girl kicking forced birther shoes. ~

~ Pregnancy and birth is pro-lifer porn, and yes they will ad under aged raped girls to their sadomasochistic misogynistic porn.~

~ I do not have the right to go hook up to my fathers body and use his body against his will. I do not have the right to cause my father unwanted genital pain against his will to save myself. If I attempt these things he has every right to prevent me from doing it to him against his will. Yet I have physical and emotional feelings something embryos and fetuses do not have. ~

~ My life was not beautiful, it was odious misery. I was used for sex as a child. From every vile thing I read and hear from pro-forced birthers you creeps are pissed I did not get pregnant from my sickening abuse.

Pro-lifers are pro-little girl rape, oh yes they are.

It is so very obvious you do not care how much MORE physical and emotional pain you heap on already sexually abused women and little girls. ~
