In May of 2011, Wisconsin man Ralph Lang was arrested after his handgun went off in a motel room.  When confronted by police, Lang told them he had come to Madison “to lay out abortionists because they are killing babies.”

Now, almost 6 months later, federal medical examiners are still trying to decide if he is competent enough to stand trial, after asking for another extension in mid October.

Via the Wausau Daily Herald:

In an Oct. 17 letter to the court, Lang complained about the delay and lack of access to his attorney. On Tuesday, Magistrate Stephen Crocker held a conference closed to the public to discuss Lang’s attorney-client concerns and in an order granted the federal medical officials’ request for a 30-day extension.Lang’s psychological evaluation is now due Nov. 6, after which Crocker will schedule a conference to determine how to proceed in the case. Lang’s attorney, Erika Bierma, requested the evaluation in June to determine whether Lang sufficiently understands the nature of the charges against him and whether he can assist in his defense.

Lang has been charged in federal court with a misdemeanor for his alleged plan to injure or even kill reproductive health workers at the clinic.
