    Dear Ms. Garrison,

Thank you for sharing the otherside. The question is – how can we help the women in these situations? How do we get access to them to help them realize they can go to college and get jobs? that is ok to have fewer children?

You are not a failure for not having many children. Your child and society thanks you for having only the number that you want and can sustain.

I was the oldest of five children, homeschooled by religious fundamentalists for religious fundamentalist reasons. Everything you said is 100% correct. The only positive thing I can say for how I was raised is that I probably wouldn’t be a pro-choice pagan socialist if I hadn’t been unsuccessfully programmed to be an anti-choice christian republican. Once you see that ideology and lifestyle from so far on the inside, all you can see are the flaws.

It must be hell on earth growing up in that kind of environment. Glad you escaped.

Thank you for sharing your story with us…It is heartbreaking to think any parent would do this to their children… Many educated people are aware that the agenda of the “Evangelicals” is to infiltrate our government and turn America toward a theology…The signs have been there for years… Their intolerance of others as well as many of their behaviors in my opinion makes them no better then the Taliban or other Muslim Fundamentalist. They have aligned themselves with the Republican Party and infiltrated their ranks with the more moderate Republicans over-looking the obvious in the hopes of winning this small, but in my opinion very dangerous voting block…We can only hope that more people like yourself come forward and tell their story since with every day that passes the situation becomes more ominous… Your story brings credibility to the seriousness of the situation, as opposed to someone like myself speaking of it and just being labeled and marginalized as some sort of a “Paranoid Liberal” with a conspiracy theory… You are a brave woman who obviously is capable of embracing cultural differences and having true compassion for others… Thank you and please keep telling your story everywhere you can.

Thank you for an informative, well written article. I do have one question. Since this belief system does not support women working outside the home, and does support having many children, how are these women suppose to support themselves and their children should something happen to their husbands, as in early death or disability? I realize that most husbands under this system are suppose to provide for their wives and children(and in a their perfect world this would happen), but as we all know, life is not perfect, and there are circumstances outside one’s control.

You are certainly not a failure for only having one child. I applaud your decision to limit the size of your family.
