Democratic Senator Ron Latz, speaking on the Minnesota Senate Floor against a proposed ban against taxpayer dollars in abortion subsidies for low-income women, asked when he gets to opt out of things he doesn’t want his tax dollars spent on, like the war, religious schools, and even mortgage deductions on second homes. He then gave a passionate plea for why all women deserve the right to abortion, not just those who can afford it on their own. “[I]f we’re going to start picking and choosing which medical procedures are available to the poor, or not available to the poor, but are available to others in our health care system, we again start down a long road that leads to nowhere but chaos and inequity.”
