Rep. Chris Smith: “Re-enfranchise” the Unborn Child

H.R. 3, the misnamed “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion” bill, passed the House today in a 251-175 vote, with all House Republicans and 16 Democrats voting for it. The bill’s sponsor, New Jersey Republican Chris Smith, promoted his bill on the floor, declaring it necessary to protect the “most persecuted minority” out there…the fetus.

Now, in a bizarre “thank you” to the Susan B. Anthony List, Rep. Smith declares that anti-choice politicians have taken the first steps to “re-enfranchise” the unborn.

I didn’t know there were franchising opportunities…

    Allow fetuses right to vote ?  Free fetuses from bondage?

    I’m beginning to think these guys are as ignorant about civil rights as they are about pregnancy and reproduction.

    If we do enfranchise the unborn, that would give each woman about 400,000 proxy votes (1 per egg).

    Everything I’ve read by him makes him sound like he thinks (and all ‘smart male legislators’ must think) women are stupid and being duped by some big secret we know nothing about.   It’s so demeaning and infuriating that legislators like him think we’re so stupid that they need to make reproductive decisions for us.    In one speech he says something to the affect of:  if you’re smart, you’ll agree with me, but if you don’t, then you’re not smart – so it guilts the others to vote his way.    They just LOVE controlling women.  I’m so fed up.

    Rep. Chris Smith, you’re a douchebag.

    Well, it’s another case of damned if we do, damned if we don’t.  If we follow along with him we’re just sheep-stupid, then….  Argh.

    Mind=Blown.

    Also, if you’re unfamiliar with the recent Scott Adams debacle, google it. He basically wrote a post where he compared women to kids with cognitive disabilites (offensive on oh so many levels), then deleted it, then said that we were mad because we were too stupid to understand the post. THEN he was unveiled as the man behind the handles at several blogs where he lauded his own accomplishments and defended himself while posing as Joe Six Comments. AMAZING. Search particularly for the posts on Feministe and ManBoobz.

    And found what you’re talking about, and honestly? I think it’s funny.   Read his follow up to it here, you might look at it differently (especially because he’s making fun of MRA’s!):
