Jill Stanek: “Worst Person in the World?”

During last Thursday’s broadcast, Keith Olbermann named
anti-abortion advocate Jill Stanek as the "Worst Person in the World,"
chiefly because Stanek posted photos and the addresses of the only two
remaining doctors who
provide late-term abortions. Olbermann said:

"You’ll never understand that
in a just world to tell a bunch of crazy people like your readers where they
can find somebody and abuse, threaten or kill them, that should be enough of a
crime to put you in jail for the rest of your life."

In an article at LifeNews, Steven Ertelt
skews the story (according to Ertelt, Olbermann "threatened" and "intimidated"
Stanek) and then misunderstands the reasons why Olbermann labeled Stanek as the "worst
person." Stanek says in the LifeNews article:

"Never mind that I didn’t actually post the addresses
of LeRoy Carhart and Warren Hern. Had I done so it would have been akin to
posting the address of President Obama and being accused of making him a target
for nutcases."

She continues by saying, "These guys both advertise on the web. They want
people to know where they operate, pardon the pun." She then says Google Maps
should be the next "Worst Person," and that the mainstream media should also be
blamed for interviewing the two doctors extensively.

It’s true that the abortion providers’ addresses are easily
accessible with a Google maps search; this isn’t the problem. Stanek’s blog has
an anti-abortion ideology, and since Tiller was murdered in the name of this
cause, a certain amount of discretion should be used by anti-abortion bloggers.
To show photos or post addresses of the two remaining clinics that perform this
operation is – intentional or not – a threat.

Let me try to explain this from a different perspective: if,
days after 9/11, an anti-American blog posted the addresses of other possible
targets, like the Empire State Building, and despite the fact that the building
is widely known and can be easily found on a map or seen from miles away, many
would still consider the posting of photos or addresses in this context as a threat.

Tiller’s murder was an act of terrorism, and a certain
amount of sensitivity should be demonstrated by the anti-abortion media; to not
do so is to risk being singled out as the "Worst Person in the World."

    nicely done.

jill stanek & her ilk seem to be so ignorant of fact & reality that they just can’t comprehend that, gee, maybe a DOCTOR might want his/her PATIENTS to know where he/she can be found? and that there’s a HUGE difference between a DOCTOR advertising and/or listing his/her address & angry lunatics & religious nuts posting insinuating information about these locations.
i’m just so disgusted with anti-choicers these days. well, i always am, but so much more so since dr. tiller’s assassination.
kudos to keith olbermann & thanks for posting this – i don’t have cable & i had no idea she’d been voted worst person in the world – which is just awesome.

If you don’t have cable or satellite, you can still indulge yourself with the guilty pleasure of seeing Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and Big Ed (Schultz). Keith and Rachel are true progressives. Ed does a good job, but since he is a former con, I’m always a little leery that he’ll switch yet again. Just go to msnbc.com. I googled “Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person in the World” and the most recent and complete “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” program came up. You can watch it here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#31176641

I searched “Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person in the World ‘Jill Stanek'” and that specific segment came up. Here is the link: http://www.jillstanek.com/archives/2009/06/olbermann_names.html

Keith has a “Worst Person” feature every night. The entire MSNBC evening lineup is a foil to Faux News. I’m not wild about MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews.” He’s a fair weather bird, and he’ll support whichever party is in power. He occasionally makes loathsome, sexist remarks, and has once made a thorough apology for it. But I don’t think he can help himself because he has since made other sexist remarks that make feminists cringe; and he does it in such a juvenile way.

The cons hate MSNBC. They lump it in with wishy-washy CNN because they gotta stick to their media-are-liberal narrative. They honestly believe Faux News’ slogan about it being fair and balanced. When it advertises itself as “We Report, You Decide,” it really means “We Distort, You Comply.”

We have just deleted a comment that suggested an act of violence against another person.

RH Reality Check does not tolerate nor condone calls for acts of violence against any person, no matter their political views or affiliations. We will delete all such comments.

I was hoping this would happen. The pro-choice community must differentiate itself from the negligent anti-choice movement. And you have done so.

However, avant-garde women and men will always prevail. Unfortunately, some women’s lives may be sacrificed in the meantime. We’ve got our work cut out for us.

Honestly, you’re argument falls short. These doctors got more press in the media after Dr. Tiller was killed because they wanted reaction from other late-term abortionists. However, no one bats an eye. Then Jill Stanek mentions these two on her web site and, because she is pro-life, Olbermann uses it as a chance to sling mud at Stanek. One of the articles that Stanek writes about is to show the run-down conditions at one of the doctor’s office. That’s it!

Abortion is murder and the sooner America is done championing it as a right the better off this country will be.
