24-HOUR ABORTION BILL APPEARS DEAD
The State Newspaper
May 15, 2009
The Senate refused to move a 24-hour abortion bill into a priority slot on its remaining, four-day calendar Thursday.
The Senate’s decision means the bill likely is permanently stalled for this year’s session.
The House-passed bill in question requires a pregnant woman to wait 24 hours after an ultrasound is performed before she can go forward with an abortion.
The bill also requires the woman to be informed of the procedure she seeks, and the gestational age of the embryo. The bill does not make exceptions for cases of rape or incest, or the life of the mother
