VIDEO: Jesus and Pope Come to Blows Over Condoms

What with Catholic Church hierarchy claiming to be infallible, do you ever wish you could just ask go straight to the top and ask Jesus whether, whatever Pope Benedict XVI may say to the contrary, condoms are a useful HIV prevention measure?  (Or whether he was rooting for the priests on the 1966 Catholic Commission on Birth Control to succeed in their efforts to liberalize the Church’s position on contraception?)

Patrick Boivin has created a new video that lets the Pope and Jesus duke it out on condoms (via Huffington Post).  And Jesus wins.

    Okay,

First of all, the Pope was not saying that condoms could not prevent AIDS, he was saying that abstinence is the only way to really prevent AIDS, and that condoms, in his view, may encourage people to engage in sex with an HIV person, when, if they would refrain, there would be no possibility of getting HIV at all,

Secondly, the video is simply immature. I know that some people here, pardon the pun, “get off” on making fun of the Catholic Church and Christianity, but this video is truly puerile.

Actually, for the females in most cultures, abstinence is not a choice. They are married off young, and have no choice about when and where they have sex. So for them, condoms are the best choice. Or maybe if it were allowed, the men would use condoms when they cheated with prostitutes, and not pick up diseases that they then bring home to their wives and children.
The video may be immature, but so what? It makes a point; it’s not supposed to make people happy, it’s supposed to make them think. Even the immature people, because those people need the information the most.

Welp, the vid may be juvenile…it was also entertaining. Yes, I have a sense of humor..deal with it.

However, the use of condoms helps in curbing the spread of AIDS, among other STD’s; and the thing is, the Pope does not take into account the fact that some of those people who have AIDS do not realize it, or they have the virus in the undetectable stage, and they unintentionally spread it that way.

While abstinence is a certain way of not spreading this disease, the real message should be “If you are unsure, then use a condom. If you know for sure, then abstain.” However, seeing as how expressing ones self sexually is a healthy outlet, abstaining can only go so far before an.hmmm…out of control situation occurs.

I say that using condoms certainly can’t hurt.

I have a sense of humor, too, but I also have a sense of taste that turns me off to this video. Like I said, the Pope did not say that condoms don’t prevent AIDS. He said people should abstain in the first place. That’s different than saying, “don’t use a condom, have unprotected sex instead,” or, “don’t use condoms because they don’t prevent AIDS.”

So the video isn’t to your taste. Nobody cares. What’s important is that the Pope said people should abstain, and he said it to people in Africa, which is unrealistic for women as in many communities they have no choice when they have sex. So it’s on the man to use condoms when they cheat on their wives. If they’re already cheating, they’re not using condoms because the Pope said not to. Then the men bring the disease home and it spreads to their families.

I can’t imagine why anyone would want to defend anything the pope says! Here is someone who wants millions of people to remain in poverty, to never fight for their rights NOW, just tells them they’ll get a reward in heaven and now tells us how we’re supposed to have sex (or not?).
Sorry this guy lost all credibility with me long ago when I realized that supposedly he is celibate, so what the hell is he telling those of us who are not how to act?
The vid was cute and entertaining.
And besides, we all know Jesus would support condom use. Read the Bible!

Sorry Progo35 that’s not what the pope said at all. He said “You can’t resolve it with the distribution of condoms, On the contrary, it increases the problem.”
Later the vatican PR machine tried desperately to alter and spin his comments so he didn’t sound so completely wrong. But his statement obviously infers using condoms makes the AIDS epidemic worse. There is no defense for spreading that kind of harmful ignorance.

shakahi-yes, that is what he said-he was saying that encouraging “safe sex” with condoms helped spread the disease faster than abstinence. As for the Pope not caring, the Catholic church, like other Christian denominations, does much more to help the poor than many of the people who spread anti-Catholic sentiment.

Again, it’s not like in America, where it’s like teenagers are deciding between “safe sex” or no sex. It’s sex when your man wants it and he can bring home whatever diseases he wants (or doesn’t want, but doesn’t know about.) I’m not trying to be anti-Catholic. My whole family is Catholic. But in a situation where ABSTINENCE IS NOT AN OPTION for the woman so it’s either sex with or without condoms. Guess which option is healthier for the woman?
