Under a Pro-Choice President, Clinics Brace for Uptick in Violence

Even before Barack Obama was sworn in as Head of State – indeed, as soon a he began winning state primaries – the
U.S. anti-abortion movement realized that the anti-choice boosterism of
the Bush White House was over. In short order their rhetoric became increasingly shrill.

For example, immediately after Obama’s election, Douglas Johnson,
Legislative Director of the National Right to Life Committee, called
him a "hardcore pro-abortion president." The American Life League
dubbed him "one of the most radical pro-abortion politicians ever," and
Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life warned that Obama will "force
Americans to pay for the killing of innocents."   Americans United for
Life, the Family Research Council and Operation Save America quickly
joined the chorus.

By January 22, the 36th anniversary of Roe, the administration’s
appointment of numerous outspoken pro-choicers to high level positions
provoked fury within the Right. The prominence of Hillary Clinton, Rahm
Emmanuel, Ellen Moran and Dawn Johnson, a former NARAL staffer, led
Flip Benham of Operation Save America to make a thunderous declaration
from a Charlotte, NC podium: "No more will we peacefully co-exist with
child killing. We are at war."

And in many places across the country they are, with clinics seeing an
uptick of violence, harassment and menace. Since the start of 2009,
there has been a fire of unknown origin at a Nebraska clinic and
significant property damage at a St. Paul Planned Parenthood caused by a man who
drove his SUV into the facility’s entryway.  What’s more, clinics
across the country are reporting increasingly vulgar taunts: you’re
leaving baby road kill, among them.

According to the 2008 National Clinic Violence Survey compiled by the
Feminist Majority Foundation [FMF] and released in February 2009, 20
percent of clinics reported severe violence such as blockades,
invasions and stalking last year–yes, even before Obama took office–up from 18.4 percent in 2005.

"The anti-abortion extremists lost at the ballot box in November. They lost four anti-choice ballot initiatives and 21 more
members of Congress are now pro-choice," says Kathy Spillar, Executive
Vice President of FMF. "In response, the antis have issued a call for a
return to the streets and there has been intensified activity. The fear
is always there that some will see this as a call to violence. This
means we’re always on guard. We’re already seeing that clinics that
have long been tortured are
experiencing escalated activity."

Hotspots abound: Allentown, PA; Birmingham, AL; Bridgeport, CT; Bryan,
TX; Charlotte, NC; Cherry Hill, NJ; Fargo, ND; Jacksonville, Fl;
Madison, WI; McAllen, TX; Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA; and Wichita
KS, to name a smattering.

"We know that political losses provoke anti-abortion extremists to retaliate, so clinics need to increase awareness," adds
Vicki Saporta, President and CEO of the National Abortion Federation.
Like others in this field, Saporta can’t forget the eight medical
workers and escorts who were murdered on Bill Clinton’s watch, the
heyday of Operation Rescue, the Army of God and The Lambs of Christ, or
the irony of relative calm at abortion clinics during the
administrations of the Presidents Bush.

NAF also understands that law enforcement is key in keeping the peace.
In places where police respond quickly, stopping infractions against
patients and staff–whether through locally passed ordinances or by
invoking the federal FACE Act, applicable in all 50 states, and
prohibiting the use of force, obstruction, or threats to keep patients
from obtaining, or staff from providing, reproductive health care–the
antis tend to be law abiding, Saporta says.  In places where the police
turn their heads, the antis push the envelope.

Pittsburgh is a case in point. "Right after the election we saw a small upsurge in anti-abortion activity," Claire
Keyes, former Director of the Allegheny Reproductive Health Center,
begins. "But since the inauguration, things have gotten measurably worse. There’s been an increase in
picketing by students from Franciscan University in Ohio. On Saturdays
there are 60-plus protesters and there’s been an increase in screaming
and aggression. We don’t have a parking lot so people park on the
street. The antis have surrounded cars, trapping the women inside, and
in several cases the antis jumped into vehicles and touched or grabbed
at them. The police were called but so far they don’t seem to be
responding appropriately."

Keyes is particularly incensed because a Pittsburgh city law bars
protesters from closing in on patients and mandates a 15-foot buffer
zone at clinic doors. But it takes police action to ensure enforcement.
"Past experience tells me that once the police get tougher, the
protesters generally hang back and get more compliant.  They’re like
little kids who push until they are disciplined," Keyes adds.

Elizabeth Barnes, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Women’s
Center, admits that she anticipated an upswing in harassment following
Obama’s win. "When the pendulum swung in the direction of protecting
women’s rights, we expected something," she says.  Her expectations
were met when, on the Saturday following Obama’s victory, staff arrived
to find that two men-caught on tape but never identified-had sprayed
foam insulation into the facility, delaying its opening for 90 minutes.
This was not a one-shot event; that same month the clinic was blockaded
and staff have since documented an increase in disruptive hollering, trespassing and overall
annoyance. "The way the antis are reacting has changed," Barnes says.
"They’re taking more liberties, pressing the boundaries of legal, civil
protest."

Talks with police have led to promises of better law enforcement, but Barnes has yet to see results. "We’re not to a point where the FACE law is being followed," she shrugs.

In addition, 40 Days for Life have taken their road show to countless cities since their founding in 2004 and are pledging
increased activism throughout the U.S., Canada, Australia and Northern
Ireland beginning in Spring 2009. The group purports to offer "prayerful witness to the evil in our midst" and operates outside targeted clinics
24/7 for their six-week protests. "They don’t physically bar women from
going in," says Tammi Kromenaker, Director of the Red River Women’s
Clinic in Fargo, a facility that has been twice bombarded by 40 Days
activists. "But they are intimidating. We continually talk to staff and
patients about safety and never let our guard down."

Yet despite the never-ending need for vigilance — and the never-ending
fear of an out-of-control anti-abortion presence outside clinic
doors–Kromenaker and other providers are pleased that Obama is in
office. "I’m happy that he repealed the Global Gag Rule and am
cautiously optimistic about him," Kromenaker says. "Clinics feel like
we can finally breathe a sigh of relief on the national level."

That said, providers are strategizing about ways to be proactive and
protect and expand women’s access to reproductive healthcare. Some are
pushing for the federal Task Force on Violence Against Women’s
Healthcare Organizations — active during the 1990s-to become more involved in stopping illegal activities.

"Eric Holder was in Janet Reno’s office when FACE passed," says the
Feminist Majority’s Kathy Spillar. "He was there when the Federal
Marshalls were send to clinics after the murders in Pensacola. Thanks
to the Task Force, clinics have had an ongoing relationship with the
FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and the Department of
Justice and there were good responses in Birmingham, AL and Jackson,
MS. In those cities the US Attorneys got injunctions against the antis
due to intense harassment and threats."  FMF, NAF and other advocates
are heartened by this precedent, and are pushing for a reinvigorated
Task Force to ensure that all levels of law enforcement use the tools
at their disposal to maintain clinic calm-and punish those who violate
the law.

As important as it is for the feds to take a firm stance in support of
Roe, other activists are taking a different tack, creating videos
documenting anti-choice harassment for eventual posting on YouTube and
Facebook.

The project, called BASTA! ENOUGH! Stop Sidewalk Bullying at Women’s Clinics, is the brainchild of the Abortion Care Network. "When people read
about bullying at clinics, their eyes glaze over. It’s old news," says Pittsburgh’s Claire Keyes.  "People don’t realize how dangerous the situation is. These protesters are so aggressive. Things can easily escalate because people don’t want someone screaming in their faces or jumping into their cars. Putting pictorials and audios on
YouTube and Facebook will show the public what’s really going on."

Providers are also paying close attention to state legislation. Since
they believe that federal laws restricting choice are unlikely under
Obama, they expect state lawmakers who oppose choice to seize the moment. Already, bills to curtail reproductive options have been introduced in Arizona, Kansas, North Dakota and Tennessee.

Dr. Susan Wicklund’s memoir This Common Secret is a must-read for anyone who cares about this issue. In fact, here is a challenge: Read the first chapter. It’s only 8 pages long, and if reading that doesn’t convince you to read the rest of it, nothing I say will, either.

  • invalid-0

Don’t these clinics provide contraceptives? Why would anti abortion people be stopping someone from stopping pregnancy in the first place. This is insane! Why don’t they seperate abortion from all other reproductive services? Or is it that these anti-abortion groups are also against preventing the major issue abortion??? Why aren’t the police enforcing the laws? This is a war once again against women.

    • invalid-0

The clinics under attack offer contraceptive care, which antiabortionists also oppose because they have cooked up a lot of fantasies about all non-barrier methods of birth control causing abortions. (I used to go to an abortion clinic for my contraception.) Planned Parenthood affiliates also offer well-woman care and screening such as Pap smears and breast exams; the one I go to also throws in a screening test for anemia and other helpful stuff.
Meanwhile, the antiabortionists’ phony “crisis pregnancy clinics” do nothing to help women stay healthy. Just try calling one and trying to schedule a Pap smear such as you can easily get, on a sliding fee scale, at Planned Parenthood. They are propaganda centers, nothing more.

    • invalid-0

First of all, the antis think the world was great before “the pill” existed. They hate women being in charge of their own bodies. It’s very anti-patriarchical. Second, they hate sex in general and women in particular having the temerity to actively engage in it. Not “proper” ladylike behavior. I think they’d next want women wearing gloves again and doilies on their heads (other Catholic women know what I mean). These are Victorian pruderies but of course the men of that day did whatever they wanted with lower class women. These pro-birth types want men to control sex and to control women like they once did. And more white children too is a bonus I guess, though for some I’m sure it’s central.

  • invalid-0

You’re missing the point–the antis oppose all reproductive health services, and are often as apoplectic about birth control as they are about abortion. Clinics offer comprehensive reproductive health services, including birth control, vasectomies, abortion, sex ed, and counseling about sexuality and contraceptive options. Some even offer adoption services. All told, abortion is but one piece of a full reproductive health agenda.

    • invalid-0

This really is the hardest to explain to people-because it is so incomprehensable to most rational folks.
Easier access to birth control= fewer abortions. DUH
While many of you may disagree with me, I am willing to concede that Americans may ,in good faith, differ on abortion (Please, that is NOT to say that I agree with restrictions on a woman’s right to choose). But people just think you are loony (conspiracy theories anyone?) when you tell them that there is a huge push ( and unfortunately sometimes successful) against contraception.

  • invalid-0

These people’s agenda is more than just stopping abortion. Their ultimate aim is complete control of women’s reproductive functions. This is thr real reason they hate birth control.

…GARGATUAN, WIDER THAN THE GRAND CANYON, FROM HERE TO ANDROMEDA! Enough anal “oh geez” (get it?). Let’s start with government initiative: the Final Solution all the way through the Holocaust was not only government-sponsored but entirely government-run. Those people running the camps weren’t from some private firm, but mostly military, following ORDERSS! The only choice for those who questioned or disobeyed ORDERSS was “liquidation.” UND DER VOLK OCCUPYINK ZE KAMPS? Oh, they “traveled” there from far and wide, collectively making decisions to cram the boxcars with full knowledge some in each one would die and rot along the way. They were so proud to go to the camps they made sure the government knew exactly where they were going and the government was so grateful it paid for everything, hiring thousands to make sure those lucky people made that trip of a lifetime. The Nazis were so generous, they even extended the offer to countries in which their troops had vacationed. And did the recipients of such “humanity” have to wait before entering the camps? Hitler wouldn’t hear of it; those people were moved with all deliberate speed even as his Fatherland was invaded by Allied Forces, taking priority over troop/materiel logistics. All that compassion from one man: who’d have thunk?

Once again the pro-choicers should see the sarcasm I’ve outlined: for those on the other side, you might want to look hard for the analogy to what I’ve posted to narrow the sarchasm you must cross, if rational people are to agree with where you want to take US.

  • invalid-0

Did you know that, before Hitler came to power, Germany had a well-developed network of government-sponsored, affordable birth control clinics? Hitler closed them all in his first three weeks in office. Abortion had also been decriminalized, and he quickly outlawed it (for the “Aryan” women he wanted to crank out babies, natch). Under Hitler, a woman could and would be prosecuted if she were even suspected of trying to induce an abortion on herself.
It was all about control for him. It’s all about control for the modern antiabortionists, too.

I walk with a cane because I have problems when students sit all along the hallway of a building where I teach. Yet having it makes people move out of my way. It is fairly easy to get people to move. I would be a perfect escort, not because I walk well, but because I don’t. Imagine the liability issues if some protestor made me fall.

I think you ought to get ppl with canes as escorts.

  • invalid-0

Here in Louisville KY we regularly have between 40 and 70 protesters every Saturday morning. The description of protesters surrounding cars and grabbing clients accurately describes the scene in front of our clinic. In contrast there are wonderful empowering compassionate escorts that also come out every Saturday morning and use our bodies to create personal space for clients entering the clinic. We get pushed, shoved, pulled, yelled at and stepped on in our efforts to keep a forward momentum. Our escorts are trained in conflict mediation, deescalation techniques, non-violent crowd control and self care. We stress empowering the client and providing support to the whole family.

If you know an escort, thank them.

If you are an escort Thank You.

If you want to help call your local abortion provider.

This is the most paranoid, fear and hate-mongering article I’ve seen. The only violence you are likely to see will be pro=abortion agents staging a scene to get more publicity for their made=up “victimhood” at the horrendous hands of senior citizens peacefully praying outside these clinics.

  • invalid-0

Sex is so much better now that Planned Parenthood will give an abortion to a 13 year old who’s pregnant by her much older boyfriend or molester, and she doesn’t even (or has been threatened not to) tell her parents, knowing that they certainly won’t interfere by reporting him! All the young girls so appreciate being coerced into abortion!

  • invalid-0

You do know the agenda, don’t you. These people’s agenda is:
Make sure girls are available for sex
Make sure older molesters aren’t caught
Decrease the number of black babies born
Decrease the number of undesirables born (see Margaret Sanger)
    Create a master race
Transfer control of reproduction and rearing of children to the state

Oh, you mean the pro-life agenda? I was commenting on the pro-abortion agenda.
Just wait till the green agenda folks start telling you to have just one child! (See China)

Even my cat laughs when she sees anti-abortion types calling themselves "Get Real", or "Truth". Because the fact is, anti-abortion types wouldn’t know reality or the truth if it sat in their laps and called them "mommy".  I’ve heard this claim girls or women are "coerced"into abortion before, but no hard facts have been presented.

    Your grievance shall be avenged.

  • otaku1960

Can you link to the articles on recent clinic violence?

  • invalid-0

The title seems to say it all “Clinics Brace for Uptick in Violence”. Could just as easily read “Business is booming”.

Abortion is an act of violence against both woman and child, it’s great for the abortion industry that they got their poster boy into the whitehouse.

The number of violent crimes perpetrated behind their doors should be higher than ever and with Obama’s constituency fornicating as a means of celebrating his election, it’s little wonder that the number of abortions rose prior to his inauguration.

But seriously, in an industry that thrives on violence, it seems a little petty to accuse peaceful protesters of crimes that are both fictitious and tame compared to the violence they are protesting.

  • otaku1960

and a half. Or perhaps you are just trippin’.  Because no person not on drugs could possibly be as pig-blind ignorant as you are in the above post. "Fornicating as a means of celebrating his election". What the hey?  Supposition, much?

You can get the most recent violence report from the Feminist Majority Foundation in Arlington, VA. There are very few articles on the incidents mentioned and all data comes from phone interviews with clinicians.

    Then call me a post-modern anti-choicer :)

  • invalid-0

Not to say that a clinic worker would necessarily lie, but just how serious would you take the reverse – a report issued by a network of pro-life pregnancy centers about self-reported harassment?

  • therealistmom

Most of the so-called "Pregnancy Centers" make it a point to lie, saying the ends justify the means. This is not simply speculation, this is verifiable fact, there have even been Congressional inquiries and investigations into the actions of Crisis Pregnancy Centers. Because of the documented history of CPC’s I would find it difficult to believe anything unless backed by evidence. Women’s health centers, on the other hand, have documented evidence of harassment over the years in the forms of police reports and criminal activities, vandalism, etc. Also, in general, most pro-choice advocates are very much anti-violence or harassment (not I say in general, there may be some out there who are otherwise) as the entirely of the issue is about right to privacy and individual rights. There is a distinct pattern of more radical anti-choice advocates who, because of their passion, have turned to more destructive ways of attempting to get their way.

  • invalid-0

I predict: if there is any more right-to-life terror, there will be pro-choice counterterror. No right-to-lifer in the USA will be safe.

  • invalid-0

“Most of the so-called “Pregnancy Centers” make it a point to lie…” Prove it. I know there have been Congressional investigations into CPC activity, but the findings by ideologically motivated members of Congress were far from conclusive. What proof do you have to base your accusation that most CPCs are outright liars? In the words of Molly Wood (tech journalist and podcast hero)….”Link me or it doesn’t exist.” ;)

“Most pro-choice advocates are very much anti-violence or harassment” – I’m with you on that, but merely because I believe most people across the board are against violence or harassment (unless they are playing video games). Saying they are that way because of “privacy and individual rights” is a false assumption because other movements based on privacy and individual rights have exhibited tendencies towards violence and extremism (gun-owners, some libertarian groups, survivalists, right-wing militias). I won’t deny that there is a strong streak of radicalism within segments of the anti-whatever movement, but I don’t think its passion that drives them. Individuals can be extremely passionate about a cause without resorting to violence or property damage. Theories abound as to why someone seeks violence as an option, but one thing is definite – there are plenty of far more effective ways to channel pro-life passion.

  • therealistmom

.. when 87% of contacted centers gave deliberately incorrect information. Because I know you won’t accept the reports put together by NARAL and other organizations, this report also has a link to the congressional investigation into CPC’s as a .pdf file. I don’t know what more I can give you- beyond all the newspaper reports of bomb threats, people ramming cars into clinics, so on and so forth. http://oversight.house.gov/story.asp?ID=1080

Someone’s Godwinned themselves already? Didn’t take long.

And yup, Mary, exactly. Hitler banned abortion. In supporting banning abortion, anti-choicers are supporting Nazi policies. It just confirms that anti-choicers are fascist Nazi sympathisers. All this ‘abortion is just like the holocaust!!!11eleventyone!!’ idiocy is an attempt to deflect from the fact that they are the ones who support the same things the Nazis did.

And anti-choicers, do you have any idea just how offensive the Holocaust/abortion comparison is to Holocaust survivors and their families? You guys really just take pride in your vile insensitivity, don’t you?

  • emma

SingingZombie, there was no such increase in violence toward anti-choicers under Clinton. Please find me one shred of evidence to the contrary. Assassination has always been a means of direct political change. I am surprised we don’t see a lot more of it in the US, especially from the left. I guess it isn’t hard to believe there are too many over educated thinkers, but too few doers among us liberals.

"I am surprised we don’t see a lot more of it in the US, especially from the left."

We’ve seen plenty of it from the right. Indeed it appears Dick Cheney had one of his own. I’ve a great bridge to sell anyone who believes Cheney’s assassination  activities were confined to the GOP’s international enemies.

…all the firepower they could within their cash/credit capacity after Obama got elected. I used to get regular notices from the Southern Poverty Law Center about the rise of hate groups since the Supreme Court handed the White House to Bush and there’s no problem with recruitment among them. Nazis, skin-head Nazis, Christian Identity, Klansmen and survivalists all hate gays and abortion (along with having problems with darker-skin colored people). With the passage of time, these groups rub shoulders more casually at clandestine hate group conventions because the memory of World War II does not resonate with the great-grandchildren as it did with the previous generations of surviving veterans. One would think that Nazis and Klansmen would send some of their people to med school to learn how to perform legal abortions, then open shop in minority communities, gouging the customers in their “genocidal” contribution. But where’s the fun in removing a fetus when you dream of the day you hold power over the people you hate and see the fear in their eyes as you march them to the camps (or shoot them during a traffic stop)? Clinic intimidators know who these psycho-killers are among them, but don’t reveal these individuals to the authorities – THAT WOULD BE NEWS, so eventually a whack-a-doo will take things too far (Kopp, Rudolph, Koresh, and many more). This is the most greivous part of the “pro-life” movement: not only do they welcome those who would kill American citizens, they beatify those who do. That’s family values for you: almost as “pure” as Hitler encouraging Aryan men to impregnate as many Aryan females as possible, age and marriage notwithstanding.
And these old people who protest at abortion clinics? Don’t be surprised their hidden agenda is to ensure more people will pay for their Social Security (can’t stand socialism but will still cah the monthly check). Abortion is still about the Benjamins: many who get them would like to make a decent amount of them (change I can believe in) and many who protest them want to make more money off the poor. Can’t wait until next month, when these senior “pro-lifers” try to vote down school budgets in my state. Send these foul beasts back to the abyss by voting for the budgets with Obama-sized turnouts (full disclosure: I work in a school and would probably lose my job if the budget failed)!

87% of 23 centers. How many pregnancy resource centers are there in the US? A conservative estimate is around 2,200, meaning only about 1% of the centers were surveyed over the phone – hardly conclusive. If you believe that, then you’d be good on to believe that most abortion clinics in the US will knowingly fail to report statutory rape because of the Life Dynamics phone survey done years ago that called over 800 of them.

Regardless, they’re still getting only a fraction of the amount Planned Parenthood is getting, and the total of what all the centers have received over the years amounts to less than a taxpayer funded Wall Street firm Christmas bonus to its employees. Granted, I don’t think the government should be funding them; I’d rather see the wealthy stripped of their millions/billions and see a radical redistribution of resources and wealth. One can only dream, though….

The “lies” (which numerous studies have shown support for those positions, whether its the most current position or not) are rather insignificant when compared to spate of misdeeds done by Planned Parenthood employees and clinics, some of whom are seeing actual lawsuits brought against them for malpractice, failing to report the rape of a minor (forced and statutory), overcharging the California government, …….

I don’t anticipate you believing this story (because of the source), but a man was ran over by a car at an abortion clinic this past Saturday in New Jersey. The driver was taking his passenger into the clinic, and the man was offering literature to them.

Bash Back! would be the closest, although most of their rage is directed towards religious/Christian pro-lifers – or so my personal experience and friendships with several Bash Back members has shown. No one has been killed by Bash Back yet, and with the level of federal investigation going on, I highly doubt they ever will.

Remember, the “Army of God” isn’t an organization – its an autonomous movement, akin to the Animal Liberation Front and the Earth Liberation Front. There is no central leader, just resources and ideas distributed from one sympathetic person to another. The anarchic structure allows these “groups” to do more with less chance of being caught, because no one can rat out others (or at least, doesn’t know more than a few people).

I knew a woman who survived Birkenau and used the comparison, and I’ve met several other Jewish individuals who are OK with it. Chances are, those individuals of Jewish ancestry who take offense to the comparison are pro-choice.

    Just sayin…..

PS – Attempting to create a comparison does not make those who do it “fascist Nazi sympathizers.” In fact, its somewhat ignorant of the fact that true fascist Nazi sympathizers are organizing and expanding their outreach efforts in the wake of the economic downturn. Do something about them! (For the record, I’m involved in a local anti-racist action group)

PPS – Hitler banned abortion in Germany and the annexed areas because he wanted more Germans because they would be needed to repopulate the areas of the world he would be “opening up” to them. Many people don’t realize this, but the Jews were only the first people on Hitler’s list to be slaughtered. He believed in a racial heirarchy, and that the lower rungs of that ladder were to be elimated. The reason the bloodshed during WWII was greater in Eastern European nations than it was in Western Europe was because the Slavic people were low on that perceived hierarchy.
Hitler also viewed women as inferior beings that should be delegated the roles of “Kinder, Kuche, Kirche” (children, kitchen, church), and segregated numerous professional careers as male-only. He didn’t give a damn if the Poles, Russians, or Hungarians were having abortions.

PPPS – Hitler supported laws that sought to treat animals in a more ethical manner, including humane kill laws. OMG if you support treating animals in an ethical manner, you support what Hitler did, OMG OMG OMG! Nazi!

Christopher, I think I’ve met you. The pro-life movement is not a haven for that crap. Many in it do hold bigoted views, but so do a lot of the yuppie snobs that gentrify cities and demean the plight of the impoverished and homeless and hold ignorant views of people of color.

I’m glad you used to get information from the SPLC. Stay updated though, and get involved in your local community. Brad, assassination was more a tool of anarchist and radical movements, and not of mainstream liberals.

    Now thats GENOCIDE !

Actually, no, it’s not. What’s happening in Darfur right now is genocide. Here, we have women exercising their legal, proper rights, and anti-choicers who don’t like that.

Abortion doesn’t even fit the dictionary definition of "genocide".  Next wrong definition please!

Why are you worried about losing women’s rights when you kill unborn females? You just killed all of their rights for their whole life time. Do you see your own incosistency?? A not so nice term would be hypocrite.
Some of you sound paranoid, if so, get out of the murder industry. What are your stats now? Five million and counting?
If you can’t control your sexual desires, at least try to take a few minutes for pre sex birth control.
Use birth control, SAVE A LIFE TODAY! The life you save may be that of your son or daughter. Think about it.

I believe that exaggeration happens on both sides, and I know this because I am at Allegheny Reproductive every week and I have NEVER seen anyone jump into a car or try to touch a woman or yell at them in any way. I have experienced some yelling in the past, and I also believe that this is insensitive to the women and should not happen, so if another group comes and is yelling at the women I do my best to talk with them and explain why this is ineffective and insensitive. I know you may not believe me that violence is not happening, but I am telling you the truth. I’m sorry that misinformation is occurring on both the pro-life and the pro-choice side, but I’d ask that you please don’t assume that every person that believes women deserve better than abortion and that every child has a right to life is an extremist. I don’t hate anyone on the pro-choice side, and I don’t assume all pro-choicers are extreme either, though I have also experienced extreme pro-choice actions. I choose to respect the dignity of every human life, whether they be a pregnant woman, an unborn child, a husband or boyfriend, a pro-life counselor, or an escort, and I hope that we may all learn to do the same. God bless.

It’s always amazed me that the fanatics that rant against abortion are not fazed by killing those that oppose their belief system.

We need to start at the root – more sex education (including ways for teenagers to pleasure each other without intercourse), more sex values (from elementary on up talking about how “special” intercourse should be) and definitely more contraception training for kids. The Netherlands have a very robust sex education system and and extremely low teen pregnancy rate.

Now where the problems tend to go very far there comes even the chances of violence as close to as killing someone and commiting murder.

So a person in a hospital is pronounced dead because his heart has stopped beating and his nerves no longer work. A tree is cut down because, what the heck, it has no heart, it has no nerve endings? WHY ARE PEOPLE GETTING SO UPSET OVER ABORTION? If it was truly murder, it would be called baby-murder. As far as I can see, if it has no heart or nerve to feel with, it is not alive yet. However, the mother is! She can feel the stress of not being able to support the baby, pay the hospital bills, or the pain of delivery. Many women kill THEMSELVES if they cannot get rid of an unwanted child and as far as I can see, the child would be better off because, hello?, who wants to be unwanted, unplanned, and not able to be supported? People dont get mad when you get your appendix removed to save your life? Whats so different about a small organ in the uterus that isnt alive and can possible harm or KILL you?

    I’m pro-choice all the way!

Hey, I agree that extremists should not be against violence to the unborn, and yet willing to be violent themselves. But these examples are the extremists…you can still be pro-life, yet go about it in other ways that make a difference for the positive.

Honestly, I don’t think this is the area we need to be focusing on. Kids do need to know how special sex is and have more sex education directly from responsible parents. Now is the time for parents to stand up and teach their children values… and how valuable each life they create is. They need to teach abstinence so they can be ready when they create life! It first starts at home!
