This is such an important story. Why isn’t there more of this in the media? Abstinence is not going to help women. Women need some better protection from infections. This is such an outrge.

Women in Africa bear the burden of HIV & AIDS from every perspective. However, there is a group of women and girls who are often invisible–those with disabilities. Literacy level among women with disabilities is 1%, they are socially isolated, face double discrimination (being a woman and living with a disability), objects of sexual abuse due to the myth of “virgin cleansing”, and the poorest of the poor!

We advocate the inclusion of girls & women with disabilities in every gender and HIV & AIDS-related issues. Their special needs have to be given more recognition in all efforts to reduce the impacts of HIV & AIDS on African women in general.

Maternal and child Health is of utmost importance.
Its startling to know that more than half a million women die in pregnancy and childbirth
every year – that’s one death every minute. I also came across a community on orkut which
represents the UN campaign against poverty of which child and maternal health is one of
    the 7 major goals.http://www.orkut.co.in/Community.aspx?cmm=47234928
